STEP 07

- Assemble your gearboxes and final touches

Here are the steps on how to assemble your gearboxes. Before installing the shafts, bearings and motors, I highly recommend sanding all the surfaces one last time. Assemble your boxes and sand them on the layout table. Of course, with a lot of determination, you can polish them until you get a very nice chrome mirror finish using some metal polish cream.

Then, take it apart and with a soft hammer or press fit, insert the 3 bearings, one on the top of your bottom box and 2 on the sides of your upper box. tip: you can also add someLoctite - 620 Bearing Mount while you insert them in place. note: make sure that the bearing's flange are on the outside of your boxes. caution: If your holes are too small, the bearings may fit but you might damage them. Your holes need to be the right size so the bearings can be pressed in easily. These are very small bearings and therefore very fragile.

tip: Do this step very meticulously. Same thing with the shafts.

You also need to mount the coupling in the upper box and the bearing mount in the bottom box. Using the centre punch, mark the location of the holes on the plates, drill and tap.

Now you are ready to assemble your gearboxes.
