The Department of Digital Arts and Experimental Media is pleased to present an immersive, interactive sound installation by DXARTS alumnus, Nicolás Varchausky (Buenos Aires 1973).
Archivo P.A.I.S. is an ongoing project that takes the form of a fictional institution that records, organizes, and analyzes a diversity of sounds, focusing on anonymous spoken voices in the public sphere.
It explores the tensions between sound, and meaning, and the musicality within the spoken word.

Organized into four main groups, these voices incarnate the informal versions of official discourses that operate in everyday life: economy, religion, art and institutions.
The archive builds a form of collective listening in the close relationship it maintains with the public and the commons, making audible shared sonic substrates.
Nicolás Varchausky's residency at DXARTS is funded with the generous support of the Mellon Foundation, through the UW Art and Creativity Initiative
