Through the lens of mechatronic art experiments, emerging artists and designers studying at the Center for Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS) in the University of Washington create an exhibition, Machines of Survival, inspired by Donna Haraway’s film, entitled, “Storytelling for Earthly Survival”. The exhibition explores the topics of the anthropocene, transhumanism and non-human agents. Participants include Alaa Amed, Aarohi Bhaway, Kennedy Buriani, Aashna Dev, Gabriel Dorfsman-Hopkins, Taylor Brienne Hammes and James Kenlee Wenlock. Each artist comments on the impact of humankind on the environment, approximate the concept of spacetime, speculate about human/animal hybridization, fabricate meditative and immersive environments, and craft interactive artifacts for the public to explore both physically and intellectually.
Participants: Alaa Amed, Aarohi Bhaway, Kennedy Buriani, Aashna Dev, Gabriel Dorfsman-Hopkins, Taylor Brienne Hammes and James Kenlee Wenlock.
Organized by Afroditi Psarra and Rihards Vitols. Supported by the Center for Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS).
