Two Ambisonic works from DXARTS have been included in the 2024 International Computer Music Conference’s program: Umbrae by Ewa Trębacz , and ní nán by Wei Yang.
ICMC 2024, titled “Sound in Motion”, is hosted by the Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea, from July 7 to July 13, 2024. All events are held at the Hanyang University College of Music and its computer music studio, CREAMA (Center for Research in Electro-Acoustic Music and Audio). Umbrae by Ewa Trębacz will be presented on July 12, while ní nán by Wei Yang is scheduled for July 13.

Wei Yang’s composition ní nán was dedicated to Melia Watras, who generously provided the source material for the piece. It was premiered in Watras’ concert NewDub in Seattle in May 2023, and has subsequently been performed at ISAC Sonosfera 2023 in Pesaro Italy, Espacios Sonores 2023 in Salta Argentina, Atemporánea Festival in Buenos Aries Argentina, ORF (Austrian Radio Broadcasting) Musikprotokoll, and included in SiMN 2023’s album Sonic Alchemy. In 2023, the work was awarded the Gold Prize in the Contemporary/Computer Music category at the Student 3D Audio Production Competition.

Ewa Trębacz’s work “Umbrae” is a 3rd order Ambisonic soundscape, composed with extensive use of the Ambisonic Toolkit (ATK) software. It was premiered at the Ars Electronica Festival in 2023 (Linz, Austria), and subsequently presented at several other events such as CIME/ICEM 2023 in Rethymno, Greece (work chosen to represent Poland), the SPHERE Conference at the K.Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, Poland (2023), the 40.4 Festival 2024 at the ATLAS B2 Center, University of Colorado, and the 2024 edition of the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (NYCEMF).
